β What is 'Psychotherapy'?
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained counsellor to explore challenges, understand your thoughts and feelings, and build tools to support your mental health and wellbeing.
At Create PAUSE Counselling & Wellness, psychotherapy isn’t just about talking—it’s about creating a safe, supportive space where you can pause, reflect, and begin making meaningful changes. Together, we’ll focus on helping you:
πΏ Understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck
πΏ Learn practical skills to manage emotions and stress
πΏ Strengthen relationships and your sense of self
πΏ Heal from past experiences and move forward with confidence
Psychotherapy can look different for everyone. It might involve individual sessions, family work, or even blending counselling with resources from our Learning Hub. It’s about meeting you where you are and walking alongside you as you work toward your goals
β What happens after I book a consultation?
The consultation is a chance to pause, connect, and explore what kind of support may be the best fit. If we decide to move forward, you will receive intake forms before your first session. In the first few sessions, we will get to know what has been happening, what you hope will feel different, and how therapy can support your goals.
β Iβm a parent worried about my child or teen. Where do I start?
Start with a consultation. This gives us a chance to hear a little about what has been happening, what you are worried about, and what kind of support may be helpful. Sometimes therapy begins with the youth, sometimes parent support is helpful, and sometimes we work with both the young person and caregiver system depending on the needs and goals.
β Will I be involved if my teen starts therapy?
Caregiver involvement depends on the youth’s age, needs, comfort, and safety considerations. We value supporting parents and caregivers while also creating a space where youth can build trust, privacy, and confidence in therapy. We will talk openly about what communication will look like so everyone understands the process.
β What if therapy feels awkward?
That is completely okay. You do not need to know exactly what to say or where to begin. Therapy can start slowly, and we will work at your pace. The goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and not judged.
β Do I have to talk about everything right away?
No. You get to start where you are. We can focus on what feels most important or most manageable first, whether that is stress, emotions, relationships, school, family, burnout, or just feeling stuck.
β Who can benefit from counselling?
Counselling can be helpful for people navigating stress, worry, self-doubt, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, burnout, parenting stress, trauma, or difficult life transitions. At Create PAUSE Counselling & Wellness, we often support parents and caregivers, youth and young adults, adults, and families who are trying to find more calm, clarity, connection, and steadiness in everyday life.
Psychotherapy can help you:
πΏ Manage stress, anxiety, or overwhelming emotions
πΏ Heal from grief or past experiences
πΏ Strengthen relationships and communication
πΏ Discover new ways to cope and grow through life’s ups and downs
πΏ Reconnect with your sense of self and what truly matters to you
If you’re wondering, “Do I really need counselling?”, you’re not alone. Many people feel unsure at first. But reaching out is a brave step and even a short conversation can help you decide if it’s right for you.
β¨ Give us a call today for a free consultation. Together, you can explore how counselling might support you or your family.
β Does starting therapy mean something is wrong with me?
No. Therapy is not about fixing you. It is about slowing down, understanding what is happening, and finding support for the parts of life that feel heavy, confusing, or hard to manage alone. Many people come to therapy because they are stressed, worried, overwhelmed, burned out, or supporting someone they love through a difficult season.
β Which is most effective: virtual, in-person, or walk & talk therapy?
The good news? All three can be equally effective. It really depends on what feels most comfortable and supportive for you.
πΏ Virtual sessions are a great option if you want the flexibility to fit therapy into your day—whether it’s on a lunch break, between classes, or from the comfort of your own space.
πΏ In-person sessions let you step out of your home and into a calming, private space designed just for you. Some people find that coming to therapy helps them set aside distractions and fully focus on themselves.
πΏ Walk & Talk therapy combines movement, fresh air, and conversation. For some, walking side-by-side in nature feels more comfortable than sitting face-to-face, and being outdoors can help ease anxiety or spark new insights.
β¨ There’s no “right” choice. It’s about what works best for your life and your comfort level. Many people even mix and match options depending on their needs
π‘ Tips to Get the Most from Counselling
Counselling works best when you bring your whole self into the process. Here are a few ways to make it even more effective:
-
π± Attend regularly – progress builds with consistency.
-
π Be willing to test out strategies – think of it like taking new tools for a test drive.
-
π€ Work collaboratively – share openly when something is or is not working, ask questions.
-
