Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive cognitive behavioural therapy approach. The term ‘dialectical’ comes from the concept that bringing together two opposites in therapy- acceptance and change- brings better results than either one alone. DBT was initially developed to treat people with suicidal behaviours and borderline personality disorder, but it has been adapted for other mental health problems that threaten a person’s safety, relationships, work and emotional wellbeing. DBT suggest that some people react in a more intense manner in some emotional situations, especially those found in personal relationships.
Th core features of DBT will help you with the development of mindfulness skills, emotion regulation skills, distress tolerance skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills and for the parents of youth- learning the middle path skills.
