Motivational Interviewing is a counselling approach that is directive and client-centered to elicit behavior change by helping to explore and resolve ambivalence about change. It is often used with addiction and the management of physical health conditions to help the individual become more motivated to change the behaviors that are preventing them from making healthier choices. This also works well for individuals who start off unmotivated or unprepared for change, who are angry and hostile.
